My name is Kimberly King. I am the Native American Education Coordinator for Victor School. I have been in this position five years. I am committed to bringing essential understandings regarding Montana’s Native Americans.
I have my minor in Native American Studies, as well as, a Masters and B.A in Education. Though I am not of Native American decent, I do understand the importance of Native American education. Native American education is relevant and beneficial for all students, regardless of ethnic and cultural background. I believe that if Native American education is implemented as an effective form of multicultural education, it serves to improve education for all.
I believe that integrating the perspectives of various cultural groups throughout the curriculum is the key to effective multicultural education. Integrating tribal perspectives is the key to genuine Native American education. We as educators in Montana should integrate groups that all students can relate to and those cultures that all students can experience in person such as, natives of Montana. The indigenous cultures, histories, and people of the place where teachers and students reside would be a meaningful starting point.
